Ice Boots/Cooling wraps?

I took Roma to the vet today for a lameness exam and the vet diagnosed him with ligament damage (I can't remember off the top of my head what she said exactly). Anyways he's been 'prescribed' 4 weeks of stall rest, a topical treatment twice daily and icing for 25 minutes twice daily.

Now I know if I am icing my horses leg 25 minutes twice daily I am going to want to be able do do other things while its icing, and not have to fiddle around too much with it... So I was thinking of getting a not too expensive ice boot or cooling wrap. I don't understand the cooling wraps that I have come across or if they will work. I don't know if and of this will work at all because he only needs to be iced from the bottom of the knee to the fetlock on the back of the leg.

Has anybody had to do the same thing and have a particular brand/style of these boots/wraps that you prefer? I looked around online and it looked like there were a couple different styles of how they worked (freezing or inserts) or how they fit and attached.

I have some quilted wraps that I use to set my horses legs up at night, and if he is having some tendon swelling (happens most of the time in summer during show season) I get the quilts all wet and put them in the freezer. I normally keep at least two frozen, and than when I get done, I put a hand towel against his skin and than lightly wrap his leg like i'm setting him up and leave it for 20 mins. Seems to work pretty good for my guy, and that way I can get his food ready clean his stall whatever while his leg is getting iced.

If you can find yourself a set of these they are freaking awesome. You just attach it to a hose and let the water run... this shows it laying on the ground but it works best if you put the tube over the horses back and down the legs. We always had a set when I worked at the racetrack.

Yes! I love these cheap ice polo wraps. No refrigeration necessary. Just wrap them on like a regular polo. They stick to themselves. Just leave them on for the required time. They draw a ton of heat out of the leg to the point where they get hot on the outside. Just rinse them off after each use or they get funky. You can use them up to 20 times before you have to trash them.

I ice my horse's legs after every ride. So if you can imagine I have this down to a fine science lol.
I absolutely love the cryo-pak ice sheets.

They are cheap as dirt and with a regular boot or polo wrap, are a snap to put on anywhere. Plus they get very cold and stay very cold, drawing out a lot of heat from the leg.

Oh and btw, I have tried almost everything else, including most of the boots and stuff from online, these by far work the best. I have probably spent over $1000 on trying different leg cooling stuff.

Another edit - if you have access to one - Game Ready is an awesome system! I'm lucky my BO has one and lets me use it whenever - have like 2 or 3 people around the first time and don't leave them unsupervised with it on until they are really comfortable with it tho.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I found an ice boot at a local feed store that is like a SMB boot but with ice inserts very similar to what Anabel posted, so I am going to try that.
