IMPORTANT skin issue HELP!

Okay so I have noticed these large hard bumps on the back of my horse. The have gotten larger and have become more of them. My trainers have said he has an allergic reaction to something but they are not sure what. They wont go away, and now they have become sensitive and irritable to my horse. Does anyone know what it is?

P.S i couldnt get any pictures cause you cannot see them....but you can feel them

I'd definately get a vet to come out and look at them cause if it's getting bigger and more sensitive it could be something serious.
How old is your horse? What is he being fed?
