Itchy Mr Zorro :(

last summer, our shetland got the itch, BAD! he had no hair on his back and he rubbed his tail down to nothing!he scratched his head over and over again onto a tree and knocked his eyes around by doing this. We were washing him in teetree oil, lux soap flakes, animal antiseptic and all stuff like that. Now it is summer again and I really don't want my little man to get the itch again . So would it be worth getting him a fly rug so that them nastly little gnats and midges can't infect him with their saliva? (thats where we read the itch comes from). We will get him one if he needs it. And also his skin thickens as well as a side effect from it.

Any help please is GREATLY appreciated, I don't want my little boy to suffer again. Please please help!! You will be helping a sweet little shetland out as well I want to bank up on info before these nastly little bugs strike on poor, innocent Zorro again

Well we were too late. Zorro now has the itch and there is nothing we do that is helping it. Poor little guy :(

Sorry :/ I would have gotten a fly sheet and maybe washed him or atleast rinsed him down atleast once a week possibly or started a fly repel supplement and spray regim before they show up next time

No need to be sorry. We have to modify all his rugs cos he is like a giant muscly man, they NEVER fit him! Nothing we wash him in is working at all :(

Have you tried just dish soap like dawn I think it is we had a puppy come to us infested in ticks and such and within about 3 washes they began to die and he stopped itching it might work and it isn't expensive

I have no idea what that is lol. We have soap called sunlight soap? It is not the bug (like fleas) That he has, he just has a reaction to the saliva of the gnats and midges. Would citronella (sp?) Work? We would dilute it as not to burn my poor baby's back.

Maybe try PM'ing HowClever. I know that AlwaysBehind sent her some stuff over from here that worked wonders on her Nippa who had the itch really bad.

I know what the itch is but I didn't realize you weren't in th states hehe oops but at my old barn made up some concoction of like a certain reworked and something else gosh I can't remember the name but it was used on a gelding the got the itch bad also
