Is your horse okay with IM injections?

Pentosan injections are about the same cost as an oral joint supplement. Just call your vet for a script from wedgewood pharmacy. I used supplements for years and never really saw any difference. The problem with supplements is they aren't always absorbed well from the GI tract, and unless you want to pay $1/day or more, it is hard to find a supplement with enough active ingredient to make a difference.

Horsecrazy, I got a supplement from my vet that is same in amounts of "good things" as Smartpack, yet much cheaper (they get it directly from the supplier). I'll check the name tonight when I get home. Vet swears by it, and I've been using it for couple months so far (after my horse was diagnosed with pretty bad case of arthritis).

Previcox is more expensive but a lot less harsh on the stomach than bute
If you're going to give any of these pain meds orally long term then I would suggest using something like U-Gard at the same time as it will help protect the stomach from ulcers
