that's sort of a long story, but basically if I were to not be paying Kenzie's feed and farrier bills, she'd of course still be eating, but she wouldn't be getting the diet she needs. They were just going to give her a few flakes of hay and Safe Choice feed like all of the other horses get, and I know that's not what a growing, emanciated baby needs, so I offered to pay for the feed. They supply her costal hay, but I buy the suppliments, the Mare and Foal grain, and the alfalfa pellets. Its my choice and I'm glad to do it because its helping her a lot, but it does cost a lot. Alfalfa is expensive.
They also do their own hooves (BO's hubby took a 6 week farrier course, but IMO doesn't really know what he's doing) so I've been paying for her feet to be done 'professionally' (in reality though, the farriers around here arent any better) whenever I can.
So its all by my will that I'm paying for her upkeep, and I don't mind, but it does take a pretty big chunk of my money. It would take up even more of that money if I were to own her though.
