Haha, yeah, I just hate having to cool him down for hours

The only other thing I'll add is that I was told years ago a vigorous curry in the sweaty areas helps because it helps separate the wet, matted hair to dry more quickly. No idea if that's a wive's tale or true...

As for me, I did have a trace clip last year but don't think I'll do it again this year. I just do lots of walking at the end of the ride; sometimes slip the saddle off and ride her at the walk bareback for a few minutes to help dry out the really sweaty girth area.

Mine are trace clipped and blanketed - its not like blankets are expensive and takes no time at all to throw one on.

If you are riding consistently and at a moderate level where your horses sweats a fair amount it is better to clip then not to clip as they will actually loose condition if they have a heavy coat and sweat as it is hard on their system.

Doing a partial clip on the underside of the body still allows them to stay warm enough when not working and cool enough when they are can adjust the size of clip on the horse and how much they sweat......I have a super easy keeper who is also a heavy sweater so she gets a bigger trace clip then my other guy who does not sweat as much and is just an easy keeper.

For my semiretired guy I do a partial clip down the underside of the neck and on the belly. I have a blanket that has a belly band, so that eases my mind a bit. The guy in full training gets a blanket clip. There's just no way he could make through a winter working in a full winter coat.
