Knee Injury

My darling girl Elly (14yo TB mare) has injured her knee. I got home at 2pm today and immediately noticed something was not right with her. I stopped the car and jumped out. She was cow kicking her back legs, shaking and had her head hanging low. She wouldn't let me anywhere near her... just kept walking away and I noticed she was limping. I thought something was wrong with her back legs.

She walked down to the front of the paddock then turned around and came limping straight back to me. That is when I noticed it was her front left leg that was injured! A gash on her swollen knee with blood dripping down her leg and hoof.

I called the vet, he was there in 15 minutes bless him. I stood with her until the vet came. She calmed a lot in that time. She got a tetanus shot, bute shot and 4 days worth of antibiotics. He said the tendon in the knee doesn't appear damaged as there is no clear fluid, but I have to keep an eye out for that. Nothing to put on the wound.

I was bracing for the shock of the vets bill but thought it was pretty reasonable actually.

She is hobbling around, grazing and drinking fluid so doing OK. She definitely seems to be moving easier this evening.

Anything I can do to help her not fight to take the ab's as much? She throws her head and spits most of it out I am sure!!
