kountry buffet 14% recall

Hey all, a friend of mine is using this feed for his horses and I found out that there was a recall for 2 lots in nebraska and whyoming in march of this year. It's a general livestock feed and the medicine Rumensin was either accidently added to this batch or too much was added and it killed some horses. What I can't find is is this med Rumensin still being added as it's not listed in the ingredients. I'm certainly not ever going to use it but my friend thinks he's found a great feed with a cheap price tag. Brand name is Payback Kountry Buffet 14%. Do any of you know anything about this? Thanks for being there

IIRC any feed containing Rumensin is supposed to be marked with a big red tag. I don't think there's any safe level for it in horse feed.

Thankyou I couldn't agree more. Still wondering if it was accidently added or if the makers of this feed are falsely advertizing that it's safe for horses in what they consider normal amounts.

I would assume accidentally added. They'd be up for serious fines from the FDA for not labeling their products that contain rumensin, not to mention they'd be losing money from medicating feed when they don't have to. It happens occasionally with feeds that are not formulated specifically for horses and are processed in the same facilities as cattle feeds which normally include rumensin/monensin. It's one of the many reasons I would never feed that type of product to my horse
