Losing hair on cheeckbones?

My 12 year old Appaloosa mare just started to get balding patches on her cheeckbones and on other parts of her face. I was curious as to if this was a disease or just something Appaloosas can get. She is our first Appaloosa and we have only had her for about six months. Please help, anything is useful. Thank you very much for using your time to read my post.

Is your bridle or halter rubbing? That's the only thing I can think of! Hope you findout what it is soon! :)

I don't leave a halter on her in the pasture. And I just rode her the last few days for the first time in about a month. So she hans't had any thing on her like a halter or bridle in about a month.

Do you use round bales? This might sound like a retarded question, but my mare had the same problem, because of the round bale holder. It grew back when we took out the round bales.

We do have round bales, but no bale holder. They just sit out there in the pature.

Is she just shedding perhaps? It's that time.

No it is not shedding. But the hair is falling out and I can see her skin.

Fly mask rubbing? Happened to my rexy

No fly masks, yet.

Could be rubbing on trees/fence posts. Is she itching her face at all?
