Metamucil for sand colic prevention?

I've used it before without any problems. Just wondering how much to feed?

This is so ironic - I recently contacted one of the 1st owners of my 20 yr old mare, and as we were sharing stories/horse care, she asked, "What do you do for sand colic in your area?"
I told her I've been buying a rather expensive tub of "Sand-Aid" from TSC, and it's given (small, tasty pellets) a scoop-full with feed for 1 full week each month. (Never mind the expensive phrase - my horse's well-being is worth it!)
Anyway, she said, "we always had sandy soil in our pasture too, but I used Metamucil". I said I'd never considered that, and she assured me her vet totally approved!
Apparantly one scoop that's supplied in the large-sized Metamucil container sprinkled over the feed for 1 week each month - she used an "off-brand" eg : Walmart, Meijer, Local Pharmacy, etc... whatever was on sale)
I told her "Thanks! That's a lot more affordable!!!"
Now I'll have extra for more horse stuff! HaHa!!
Hope this helps! :)
