Apparently, this is the year for health problems among my horses. I've honestly never had that many issues with the lot of them before this show season! First we had a scare with Magic, Tanner, and Ruby being exposed to strangles (I had never dealt with it before, and so rushed the vet out to check them over and answer all my questions -- luckily, they didn't catch it.), then Dio comes up from the pastures absolutely covered in hives (still have no idea what he was allergic to). Then the farrier comes out to check out a strange set of cracks on Dante's hooves and reset one of Magic's shoes... and apparently Dante had about three abscesses blow out the hoof wall (not counting the one he had a few years back) -- but he was never limping, never showed any sign of pain or even minor discomfort! (Had the farrier check over his hooves to make sure there weren't more, and he didn't find anything; there's never been a sign of him being abscessed, just all of a sudden he'll have a strange crack where it blows out. And Dante is the only horse of mine that has gotten any abcesses.) A few weeks later, we're bathing Magic and Tanner for an upcoming show (with their specialized shampoo for white/light horses), and /both/ of them get hives from the shampoo!
Now, to top it off, Magic was limping yesterday at her show, and I suspect that her back is sore going by her unsuallly volitile reaction any strenuous activity.
I'm glad that nothing /serious/ has happened *knock on wood* but still... I've never, in all my ~20 years of owning horses, had this many issues all at once!
