Smile A Miraculous Story! Must Read!

Many of you may not know what a cattle guard is. I moved from Michigan (where there's none) to Texas (where they're everywhere) in 2010. We brought 2 horses down (out of around 15 horses) and they had no clue what they were. Long story short...I needed a horse that I fit on and so I bought my 10 year old mare Dixie May in Dallas. Thinking she knew what a cattle guard was, I didn't worry about her because she's a horse from Texas. Well, I was wrong. One morning, my father was heading off to work and drove up to the cattle guard at the end of our drive way. Dix had gotten both front hooves stuck deep in the cattle guard. Luckily, the cattle guard wasn't put in correctly (& I think that's what saved her) and wasn't as deep as it should have been. It was a wet morning and we used a crowbar to try and pry her legs out. With no success, we called our vet and he came a tranquilized her. We all thought her legs were going to snap as she fell (already exhausted from flailing around for God knows how long). We all cringed as she went down and we celebrated as her legs bent with the fall...saving her life. She's currently doing well and is being trained in barrels.

Yea - that is why they call them guards, haha!!
I am so glad she is OK though! You always have to watch out for those, they are not a joke and shouldn't be messed with. Good luck with your horse!!!
