mutton withers???

Has anyone ever heard of Mutton Withers? My horse kitty as the start of the arch of withers but then it goes flat and oval... and then it continues up her neck... I am trying to figure out if this might be the reason I am having problems with keeping her collected and really moving out... anybody know?

I had a horse that had what I was told were mutton withers. Practicly no wither flat back sort to like a mule. She was a very rough ride and difficult to fit a saddle for. Not sure it was due to her withers but it could have been.

Mutton withers shouldn't really affect a horse's movement. I know they're seen a lot on cobs and British native types so I've seen a lot of them and they're usually something that accompanies the 'rounder' horse. They make saddle fitting an issue - often you'll get it rolling around even if it fits the horse perfectly - but on the other hand make for a comfortable bareback ride.

O ok... she is an appaloosa... she is round as she is 15.2 and 1300 lbs... but it's not sounding like mutton withers... i'm going to try to get a good picture of her back and maybe that will help

They are really comfy bareback mounts, kinda like sitting on the couch
