is my horses hoof growing normal?? it looks dry or something

Ever since I got my horse about 6 months or so ago, his hoofs are all growing with this weird texture. Its not smooth, its like dry looking, actually it almost looks like the smooth layer of hoof isnt there as if like it was burned off by being acidic or something, so I don't know what the deal is. But all 4 hooves are like that.... what is this, is it normal and if its not normal what can I do to fix it?

And yes I know he needs his hooves trimmed

It's normal. Mine looked like that after this dry summer.
Just make sure he is getting his vitamins and good feed/good hay.
I stroked out about mine! Also helps to let the area around the water buckets get a puddle every once and awhile so their feet can soak up some moisture when it's dry.

Okay good, yeah the summer here was record highs and pretty bad for the farmers and cattle. But we give him vitamins morning and evening and good hay as well, an always try to overfill his water some so he had a puddle to get into if he wants. Thanks the the input, glad it looks normal!! I just hadn't seen really any horses in awhile with that look to their hooves so I wanted to be sure, thanks!
