Question My mare's hoof.. To my stallion's face.

My mare kicked my stallion, in the face. The hoof cut through the skin, and there is a crack. Its pretty small, and I'm getting pictures soon. Should I call my vet? Should I put anything on it?

Is the crack in the skin or in the bone?

I think I'd call the vet. If you can see broken bone or chipped bone, its bad enough to warrant a vet visit.

Eep.. ouch.. it's hard to tell without pictures but if you're questioning it I'd give the vet a shout. Better safe than sorry.

Good luck!

In the skin, and I think in the bone, too. I didn't think to check the bone before.. I'll call the vet.

Oh dear! I bet he has learnt a valuable lesson, never mess with a mare before she's ready. Hope all is okay. Keep us posted.

LOL Oh you would think he would be messing with her but no, this stallion acts like a gelding. He has no interest in mares, the mare is jealous. I pay more attention to the stallion because I'm breaking him in. She apparently thinks I like him more, because every time I go to halter her, or do anything but feed her, she shows her hind end and pins her ear back. And if the stallion even walks by her, sh will bite or kick. I feel bad for the poor guy..

Hehehe....then let's hope she hasn't scarred him for life towards ALL mares!
