Mysterious Lump

So I'm pretty sure these have happened before on horses througout my life and I've just ignored them and they've gone away.

Its been there a few weeks. It started out looking like a hive, then it started to lose hair I guess, now it looks like a scab. Its hard, not sore at all. It "peeled up" and looked like a scab (hard top, fleshy underneath, and on the underside of the flap is was kind of white-ish, not puss but like the underside of a human scab). Today its a little more reconnected and "healed" looking, but I applied some ointment anyway

BUT what is is?
My farrier says its a wart. :roll:

//ignore fingernails. Lol

It almost looks likes rain scald. I can't tell where exactly it is located, shoulder? Rainscald is more odd for that area....One picture looks like a hip.

Its his shoulder. He is actually in treatment for rain scald on his rump, but it looks nothing like this lump..?

My gray mare has two of these. Hers are pretty small maybe 1/2 the size of a pea.

One on her shoulder and one behind her elbow where the cinch goes. She's had them as long as I've had her (not quite two years). Hers don't bleed or anything, but they do sort of flake/peel occasionally. I was fearing they were melanomas, but maybe they are just benign warts. That would be a comforting thought!

They look a lot like the last picture you posted, except they have never bled or anything.

But my mare's have been there for at least two years, and your horse's just appeared. So I would say there is a good chance your horse's warts/scabs/whatever they are, could heal up and go away.

Yeah I think it is healing OK. Its not sore or anything so I'm not too worried, just curious as to what it is ;)
