My new horse Mozart had a leg injury on his right hind leg back in July that wasn't healing, it was really ugly and we were unsure of how he did it. Several weeks later (five to be exact) after seeing no progress in healing, I called the vet out. My vet has been a vet for over 30 years and she has no clue what is wrong with his leg. Furthermore, his front leg is now doing the same thing and has the same kind of wound on it. The flesh, litteraly, falls off of both his legs on the right side. Its ugly, its sore, and its not going away. The vet will be out tomorrow to do a culture and also a biopsy of the flesh to see if we can figure out what is wrong. Below are pictures of his legs. They are nasty looking! I just thought I'd share to see if maybe anyone has seen anything like this before.
The vet had him on Antibiotics and they were getting better, then I ran out and the vet said he shouldn't need anymore, and the wounds got worse again, so the vet stopped by and dropped off more antibiotics and he is on them now. So far, his legs are still not getting better. I am so tired of this battle with whatever it is and I'm hoping the tests we do tomorrow will shed some light on the subject matter and tell me what it is so I can fix it properly.
This is his back leg, which for a while there, looked better. But now its back to worse. Also the lump on the skin is soft and squshy like there is fluid in it, the vet has yet to see that lump so it will be discused tomorrow.
This is the front of his right front leg, this just started to open up, which is why it doesn't look as bad.
And this is the back of his right front leg.
It is almost like his flesh is rotting off. There is no pus or anything like that, his skin just falls off when you touch his legs. It is also not contagious. His front leg is not infected due to contact with his back leg or anything like that. If anyone has seen anything like this before please help! I am so sick of this I could scream.
