Nasty Bug Bite: Advice?

My horse Dallas got bit by something nasty. Looks like a horsefly bite, but we've had a lot of wasps around too.

He was bit right where his chest meets his left front leg. He doesn't seem bothered by it but there is some swelling and the actual bite is leaking some blood and pus like it's draining. I've been cleaning it regularly and applying a spray that keeps out infection, as well as hosing it with cool water frequently to help with the swelling. It doesn't seem to serious but I have a show Saturday and I want to make sure he's comfortable for it.

Basically if anyone has any advice for anything else I can do for him that would be great! If it would be helpful I can get some picture of it later or tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

Bad bug bites typically bother us a lot more than the horse. If it's draining, the best thing to do is just wash it with antibacterial soap once or twice a day. You want it to drain, so I don't put anything on them that could block that, and they are usually pretty much healed in 4-5 days.
