I just bought a new horse who is an 11 year old QH gelding with some Arab in him. He is about 15.3hh. He will be used for trail riding maybe 2-3 days a week. The person I bought him from currently has him on free choice grass hay and
2 cups beet pulp soaked in 2 cups water
1 cup pelleted feed
1 cup Equipride supplement. She gives this concoction twice a day. The problem is he will be moving to a boarding stable that gives free choice grass/alfalfa mix hay and they are on pasture whenever possible. (Which won't be too much longer due to colder weather). Anyway, I asked her about this feed regime and she said the only reason she gives the beet pulp/pellets is to mix the supplement in and that the horse doesn't NEED anything special. He seemed to be a good weight except slightly on the skinnier side than the fatter side. He was healthy otherwise. I have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what to feed him as I can only get out to the barn once/day. I've been thinking about ration balancers as that only needs to be fed once/day and I would be able to omit everything she was giving him while using the ration balancer. What would you guys suggest for his feed regime???
