Nicest day of the year, sick horse.

Finally we get above suck. I blow outta work early. Wife and daughter got to ride all day. Get there, and my horse isn't himself. Check him out and he's slightly swollen on one side of his nose. Between eye and muzzle. And snotty on that side. His day today, caught at noon. Put back out, caught again at 2. He was fine tied till 430. Wife noticed the snot and swelling after she rode around 4. The swelling is right under the halter. There's no heat, he eats fine, drinking. Guts sound good. He was perfectly fine with ground work. No visual signs of teeth issue. Yesterday and today have been very nice so lots of sunbathing. My first thought on the swelling was he either went face to hitching rail. Or slammed on the halter. But that doesn't really explain the snot on that side. To me anyways. Any ideas?

Well I hope that halter doesn't stay on him?? Otherwise it is allergy season. I know I'm suffering pretty bad and my horse has a snotty nose but otherwise fine. He could have gotten something in there too. Watch his temp to make sure he doesn't get an infection otherwise I would just give him a few days. If he still has the bump by Monday or it seems to be getting worse then I would call the vet and at least ask suggestions.

Thanks. I thought about allergys. He's never had em before, but I suppose that could always change as he matured. Halter is only on when he's caught.

Actually today he's much better the swelling is down some, he's himself, and today we trotted backing in hand. Tommorrow they are forecasting lake effect snow. How handy is that?

What is lake effect snow? Anyways, glad he's better and our snow is melting like crazy and all sun in the forecast. Sorry, gloating, can't help myself.

Today the swelling is gone, and no snot. Thank god. Lake effect snow when cold winds pick up moisture off Lake Michigan and dumps it on land. That's the non scientific version lol. Just so happens that we live exactly where it likes to dump. Ya!
