Hi, Please help set my mind at ease. Can you please tell me what a normal one day old foal's bowel movements should like like? Yesterday he passed some really sticky dark colored stuff a little while after delivery and then had some hard stools-almost looked like big green olives, and then it went to really sticky orange/yellow stuff that sticks to him. It is not diarrhea, but it is very soft and gooey. This is our first foal so I am really nervous and just want to make sure all is okay. Does that sound normal and if so should it stay that color/consistency for awhile or will it change soon again?
He is nursing well, up and walking and trotting laps around his mom and then napping intermittently. He looks good and healthy and he will be getting some kind of shot from the vet later today.
Also, I attached a picture-His mom is a Fox Trotter bay and the stud is a Fox Trotter dark palimino...any guesses by looking at him now as to what color you think he might be? His mane is the reddish color and tail is red with a lot of the creamy color underneath like what is on his legs.
Any opinions and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
