Hey, all...My 15yr old QH geld. Had an abscess in his rear left hoof. The vet came out a week ago, drained and treated, gave a bollus of penicillin, and instructions to soak and change bandages every two days for 5-7 days. The abscess is not leaking or oozing, the hoof looks clean and there is no swelling in the fetlock or leg. Sunny is not limping at all, and he is back to 100%. So, now what? I have a call in to the vet to get her opinion, but would like to know what you all do. The abscess was on the edge of the sole, somewhat deep. Do I keep it packed, do I keep a bandage (duct tape over vet wrap) on it to keep it dry? Or do I let it go au natural? HELP!
