Nuerological or spinal damage? need some help

We had a gelding at our barn, who did that.
He had a stroke and he had a left side deficit, and couldn't get up when he layed down.

Vet stopped in yesterday and we put her back on doxycyclen (sp?) and smz, as she started going downhill again yesterday and my last dose of doxy was the day before. Just trying to keep her comfortable and from hurting herself until we can get some answers. EMP test should be done tomorrow at the soonest.

I don't have any ferns even on our property, but we have only had her less than a month and I have no idea where she came from.

I think it wouldnt hurt to give her some Vit B1 in case it is Bracken? It could be she had it before you got her as it can take up to 3 months for the symptoms to show up, although they usually go away on their own if you take them out of the pasture with the problem. Hard to say but it sure does fit well with her symptoms. What were your vets feelings about the possability of Bracken poisoning?

She has EPM. Just got the test results in this evening.

Awww that's so sad..poor thing.

Did some reading up at epmhorse.org Wow. Went back through the blog posts. I didn't realize how difficult this can be to treat. Hope everything works out and she responds to treatment quickly. I'm not usually a mule or donkey person but I just loved the pics you posted of her.
