Hello, I have a mare and young foal that I would like to put out in a pasture that was sown with oats this spring. The oats are 6-8 inches high, would there be any problems with the horse eating them?

Are you talking oat grass, or actual oats?

I think if you started them slowly on the pasture, it would be ok. Don't just throw them outside and let them eat and eat and eat. I think you'd end up with sick horses.

A lot of folks around my area feed oat hay in the early spring. I don't like it as it ferments and molds really fast because it's so green.

I think alot of it will depend on if it's oats or oat grass like 7Ponies said.. If it is actual oats i woulden't suggest it because it could lead to colic, if it's grass starting slowly to let their digestive system get use to it, i think it would be fine.
