Old Horses

I just wanted to say... Until I found this forum I really thought I was "special" becuase I still have my first horse (24 years old) and his old pal (29 years old). I have a lot of friends, we all show together and I know that not everyone has the land that I got lucky enough to come across and so I really do understand that as horses get old or injured, people who show or can only afford ONE hrose have no choice but to sell and buy another if htey want a usable horse... I just wanted to say, I can't get over how many people at this site still has their OLD HORSES! It makes me feel so good to read about them.... because I feel like they are like heros and should be honored until they are gone... so anyway... my heart go's out to all the other's with OLD HORSES!!!!!!!!!

Aww, that's good. My horse is only like 8 (tomorrow's her bday! lol) but I'm sure it feels really good to have a horse that long.

Ride more, worry less.

I have an old horse (28) and I have an 8 year old horse that is turning 9 tomorrow! Same birthday as poptarts little girl.
It sure does feel good to have a horse live that long. :)

My babies are a 26 yr Arabian DB and a 25 yr old TB Henry. They are both incredible animals. I have watched friends' "children" [5yr thru 12 yr old QHs] and I am positive my guys are better than the younger crowd. I've even thought about starting a retirement pasture for old horses people don't want anymore.
I know time with my boys will be shorter than I want it to be and when they don't enjoy life anymore I'll have to deal with. But for now they are 2 of the best animals a person could have.

It is pretty awesome. Cocoa was no longer rideable since 1997. But she was my best friend so I couldnt sell her. I didnt have a second horse until last year. So all those years I paid boarding fees, etc... and couldnt ride. I will have Cocoa with me for as long as she lives. Last month she turned 30 yrs old. I have had her since January 1984.
