Pasture managment

I have small weed infested pasture that needs deweeded. If I were to use "weed and feed" how long would I have to wait before I could put my horses back in the section? Or are there any other inexpensive things I could use to kill weed and promote grass grown that wouldn't be bad on horses?

I would consult with your local farm store as they will be able to advise you best based on the types of weeds found in your area, the products available (those allowed vary from state to state) and they grazing restrictions for each.

You could also look into a brief "graze off" by other animals who will eat the weeds that are present.

Also, we had this problem last year with our small pasture, and simply cutting it regularly for the summer helped the good grass grow through the weeds and it eventually evened out pretty well.

We just mow our pastures, and that does a pretty good job of killing off most of the weeds, and it gives the grass a chance to breath and grow back again!

See if you can borrow a few goats from someone you know.
My sister has goats, I just go and get 3 of hers and let them graze with the horses for a couple of weeks. They prefer the weeds and the horses prefer the grass. When everything looks better, I just load them up and take them back home.
Its a win win for me and my sister, I get the weeds gone and she has less to feed for a couple of weeks.

I would advise to go to your state's Farm Breu(or however you spell it) and they can tell you how to get your pasture(s) in the right shape! It did wonders for our pastures. When we bought the farm, there were weeds and all kinds of crap everywhere, but after some(very hard) work, we now have lush green burmuda EVERYWHERE!
