Pasture Rocks

I am getting my pasture ready and there are TONS of rocks of all shapes and sizes. I am walking through the area and picking them out but do I need to get ALL of them out? I'm not even sure if its possible to get every single rock? What size rock is not going to harm their hoofs?

It may be good to have rocks in the pasture. We have a very large pasture, and it would take days to pick all the rocks out. As long as their feet get regular cleaning, they should be fine, rocks can wear feet down, if they are too long, and it helps the horse become good over rough terrain.

Rocks are fine. The only thing I watch for is shale, which can break apart and have very sharp edges. Anything else is good for them actually. Helps to keep their feet in shape and teaches them to pick up and place their feet properly. Leave the rocks -- sit and watch your horse instead! :)

Yep, so long as they do have some rock free areas where they can safely lay down and roll, I wouldn't worry about the rocks. It is good for their feet and will also help them learn where they are putting their feet.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/
