Does anyone have experience with Pentosan?

I've been thinking of putting my mare on it. I'm hoping next summer to show a bit more, ideally I'd like to start doing western dressage class on top of my western pleasure shows. I like that the Pentosan is supposedly more effective then feed through, and about the same price.

The down side for me though would be it's an extra $40 a month. My mare has navicular and is currently doing well on all her therapies (Previcox, isox, Osphos and special shoes) which are already cost me a pretty penny each month. I know the previcox takes away the discomfort of the arthritis, but it doesn't do anything for the joints.

It sounds like a lot, but my horse LOVES working. As long as she's happy I'm happy to keep her going. I just want to give her the right tools for the job!

Have you had success with Pentosan?
I've read some people giving it more then every month. Is that common?

Will do! There aren't any trainers around here to my knowledge, so we may be winging it! I really wanted to do the western dressage clinics at Equine Affaire, but I was too nervous about my horses soundness. She was sound all summer, but would be sound for 3 hours of hauling, 3 days of stalling? I couldn't guarantee it so I decided to pass. Hopefully this summer if she stays consistent I bring her.

I just started it with my 18yr old mare who is also on Previcox. She will be getting her third dose tonight. After only 2 injections, she has definitely been moving better, but I can update after the intial laoding doses are done.

Nothing wrong with room for improvement! Are you looking to add or swap?

I'm no help with the actual question, but a vet I know has been promoting Phycox for pretty much anything. There is a Phycox Max as well. Non rx and available for dogs as well. It's a feed through joint supplement that also has pain management. The vet is thrilled with it and the horses I've seen put on it I've seen amazing results!! I haven't used it myself, it's expensive and I have no need for it atm, but I have been pretty impressed with it so far!!

Never heard of that! I'll check it out though.

I would be in addition to. Honestly, I was thinking maybe I'll make the Osphos yearly, before the summer sets in, instead of bi-annually. It wasn't the miracle drug everyone raves about for my horse. I haven't had her X-rays redone, but then again I haven't seen a reason too, her soundness has only improved.
