So the Power company is spraying all the power lines & road sides with chemicals to kill plants & keep the power lines & sides of the road from having trees & brush. Will this harm my horse if he would happen to escape & eat the grass where they sprayed?? They were going to spray the lines near his feild along the creek where he drinks & my step dad said No.He told them they can't spray our property at all but they sprayed the field next to us & all up & down the road yesterday! & of course you could smell it. They said that its fine & wont bother any animals but the goverment & compaines say a lot of stuff like that that tends to turn out to be harmful.
I'd keep him away from it until it dries, maybe until I could not smell it. I swear last summer, my f.i.l. sprayed some weeds and later that day one of my horses was stumbling. Its the only thing I can think of that could have happened. He was later fine but scared the hell outta me!
I think you're right. I can't even handle my dogs right after they've been flea-treated bc I have an allergic reaction to it.
Fortunately, given some time, the weather will flush most of it out of the area after several months, so it isn't permanent. I bought this herbicide last year called, "Pasture Pro". The packaging said it could be used while your horses are on the pasture, but the fine print advises against it. I just replanted about 1/6 of one of the pastures--the grazing and 2 years of drought had their toll on it. My horses got kicked off a month ago, and won't be able to reenter it until next June. When I'm finished with the tilling and the scraping and the seeding--BIG JOB--I'm going to use the Pasture Pro on it to kill off any weeds that I didn't already pull or saw and remove. I know that by next year it will be safe for them to graze it. Hope this helps. =D
They said it kills everything and stays in the dirt and they are gonna keep it sprayed. Luckily it's almost winter but next spring they're gonna do it again and usually when he gets out the frat places he goes is where they sprayed. They actually spayed a majority of the fold next door so if he goes there its probably not gonna be good. But they did write down on the paper where my parents said if my horse got sick from it they would be responsible. Posted via Mobile Device
I know what they SAY. They also have access to commercial sprays that the general population does not. Who knows if it's safe for livestock.
I wouldn't let my horses touch it. Tough as goats are, I wouldn't even let them eat anywhere the county has sprayed.
It isn't uncommon in my area, to see "no spraying" signs but that doesnt always work either. On my road, we all pretty much take care of spraying our own roadsides; I have never seen the county spray our road but they will mow what we can't --- thank goodness.
A. fix your fence then it wont be an issue.
B. call power company and get a copy of the MSDS (material safety data sheet), they are required by law to give you one if the spray is near your property. That MSDS will list all the ingredients and tell you about the hazards and the waiting periods. That way you'll have actual facts to go on instead of us just guessing on a forum with no real information to go on.
I have electric fence it is fixed works great but fences don't
Always keep them in if they want out they get out
I keep my fence maintained weekly. If he decides he really
Wants out he will eventually get out! And ill tell my parents about the copy of that paper Posted via Mobile Device
if your fence is maintained weekly then it is a bad fence.
Mine hasnt been maitained in years, and that was only because of a hurricane that knocked down some trees. No it is not normal or ok for your horses to get out. The root of this and possibly other problems is an inadequate fence.
Dude he hardly ever gets out like seriously stop worring about nothing all I'm saying is horses sometimes get out and i wanted to know if he went in the field an ate would he would die!
I check my fence weekly bc I'm parinoid!!! My horse can't even go that far I live out In the middle of nowhere so if he gets out the only real danger he has is eating pesticides! Plus
My parents like to make me check it weekly bc they say its a part or caring for a hors!!!!! Plus I have went out there and touché the fence and it shocked the crap out of me and I have saw him get out the same day! But he's gotta go through 2 electric fences to get out of both of his separate fields! Posted via Mobile Device
