please help..bruised frog

I rescued a horse 2 weeks ago. She had hooves that had 3 inches of overgrown hoof. She had one shoe on when she was gotten out of the pasture that she had basically been abandoned in. She has had no feed for over 3 years. She is gaining wieght now, her hooves have been trimmed. She has a limp on leg that had the worst hoof and shoe. The man where I have her boarded says that it is a bruised frog...how long does that take to heal? Can someone give me advice?

Without much more info, wouldn't presume to take 'the man's' word for it that it's only bruising, but *if* it's only a bruise and the horse is kept on yielding, not rocky ground or otherwise protected with boots or such when necessary to prevent further bruising/abscesses, same as for us - could be only a few days or could be a week or so.

What did the farrier say? Or has she not seen a farrier? In such poor shape, she needs to see both a farrier and vet, pronto.

Must be a record, though, to survive three years without food...

She had pasture and some hay. She was not able to get any feed because the other horses cut her down. They would not allow her to feed and the owner was not there. He would throw feed and leave. The farrier said that she probaly has a stretched tendon. I would think so too. That wouldhappen naturally with hooves too long. I am getting her a boot today as well as wieghtgain feed. She wiill be getting her shots today as well.the man boarding my horse is well respected and hasaround 60 very healthy horses. She has no swelling andno heat.i wanttolean toward the bruised frog. I am hoping to get the vet out. The one that comesis from lakewylie and hopefully I can get him up soon.
