popping hocks

A friend asked me to come check out her new mare. After some roundpen work both hocks started visiably popping at the height of the movement. Do you think work will help this or make it lot worse. The horse has been penned as most in this area is. I suggested a vet evalutation but she said she couldn't do that at this time.

I would at least get her started on a good joint supplement, as its probably arthritis and keep her work light.
