I always leave my horses free choice white salt and mineral blocks. I'm just wondering if I should start giving free choice loose and/or electrolytes?

My mares problem is the weather extremes right now. It will be high 30's or low 40's at night and be in the 60's and 70's in the day. I am at a loss as what I need to do better to prevent this from happening again. Belle currently is fed about 20 lbs of alfalfa hay split into am and pm feelings and she also gets 1lb of Nutrena Empower Balance. She is stalled at night and gets turn out along with atleast an hour of exercise almost daily.

Going through almost the same exact thing with a lesson horse at my barn-no other suggestions except what you've been doing. That's basically what we're doing with the horse at my barn. Sending good thoughts your way!!

    Natasha,

the vet only gave banamine and tubed her fluids last night. She was only showing mild symptoms then. She was showing symptoms of dehydration. The loose stool was a result of those fluids. He could here bowel sounds and her heart rate was at a normal rate, not elevated at all. She has had two small stools, both times more solid and formed in consistency.

The vet came out again tonight. He checked Belle over again, heart rate still low and gut sounds are still good. She got another dose of banamine and more fluids. She is seeming like she is feeling better, and is resting now. I am trying to get some rest myself. It has been a long day, I'm praying she rebounds soon. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Hope she is doing good, we just lost my 9 years lesson pony a month ago due to colic. I never want to see that again.
