I feed Purina Edge and got told today that Nutreana is much better quality. Has anyone heard this or had experience with this? I have a pregnant mare who is also on Purina Edge (a vet told me to feed this) and I only want to feed her the best.

I think that overall Nutrena is better quality than Purina, but I haven't used either of those personally, so my opinion is just based on what I've heard other people say :-p I do know that my vet feeds her horses Nutrena Life Design. I feed my horse Triple Crown 30% Supplement.

By Purina Edge do you mean Purina Strategy Healthy Edge? I've heard good things about that feed, so if you're happy with how it's working for your horse, I wouldn't worry about switching just because someone tells you they like Nutrena better :)

Yes it's healthy edge and I just started feeding it sobi can't form an opinion on it just yet, but if Nutreana is actually of better quality then I'd much rather feed that to them. The lady who told me Purina is bad had a terrible experience with it. It made her horses coat dull and brittle.

Personally I use both for the needs of each individual horse.. People can say this one or that one is better but it really comes down to which is best for your horse..

Nikki gets a mix of Nutrena Safe Choice and Purina Omolene 200.
Lark gets a mix of Purina Strategy and Nutrena Safe Choice.
Hickory gets Nutrena Life Design Senior..

What may be the best for one horse may not be for the next horse, you have to figure out what works best for you..Not what others say is best. That said, I've had good results with both companies.

Is your horse doing well on it's feed now? Maintaining weight good, healthy coat, just in overall good condition..If so, no you don't necessairly have to change feeds unless you think your horse will do better on another feed..Like the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well he was on senior to get his weight up and we just recently switched him to Purina Healthy Edge. Its only been a week. II can't recall what brand the senior was. I'm pretty sure it was Purina though. Yes he is nice and sleek and of good weight.

I'd keep him on the Healthy Edge for a few weeks and see how he does with it, if he continues to do well on it I would just stick with that. If you are thinking there are little holes missing I would add a free choice mineral block or loose minerals..I also have all of mine on the all around supplement Omegatin, it's really great stuff and it's not expensive.

I think both are very good, just depends on what works for your horse. A friend of mine started her mare on Healthy Edge after she weaned the foal (because the nursing pulled her way down) and she gained her weight back quickly. I like it because it gives the horse energy without extra hotness.
