Exclamation Question- Flies (hated!)

The flies are simply tormenting my horse this summer. I'm desperate!!!! I spray on flyspray, keep her meadow clean and she wears a flymask yet the bugs still persist and she gets bit often. Help! I pity my poor horsie in these kinds of conditions but I don't know what to do. Anybody have an suggestions, let me know right away!

A fly sheet might be good in her case. I also use Equi-Spot by Farnam, it's a spot on fly control and I've found that it helps, along with the fly spray and fly masks my boys get.

Is there any place you could mount a fan so she would have somewhere to retreat to?

Agree with what others have said about fly masks/fly sheets. Find a spray that you and your horse like, that will help somewhat. Also, when my mare gets really bad bites, or tick bites, particularly on her face, she tends to rub those bites raw. So, I cover them with Swat before she goes out (even under the fly mask), and I think that helps a little.

For general fly control, definitely look up Fly Predators (you can search on here or do a Google search to find the website directly). It's not too late to get them for some relief this summer, and they get pretty universally good reviews. The Spalding Labs website, where they sell them, has a pretty active discussion board where you can read other opinions too.

For me, the biggest problem is black flies, and I don't know of any retailer that has a good product for those. They are just tortuous right now- I myself am covered in huge welts from them. Unfortunately, it's just a function of where I live.

feed through fly control. I have swarms of flies.. I spray and within 5 minutes the horses are swarmed again, dogs are swarmed, go out in shorts and I get swarmed and the darn things really hurt ! I have some yellow fly catcher birds and they cannot keep the flies down, well I don't have them, they are in the trees ..

I have a fly sheet and a fly mask for my horse, but I always spray her with fly spray too. Mostly on the belly, neck and around her tail, since that's where the sheet doesn't cover.
