Quick question about alfalfa hay

Okay so I purchased a bundle of square bales that consists of 21 bales of pure alfalfa out of murfeesboro TN, he seemed like a big producer and shpiped over the US. All I've ever fed has been mixed grass and orchard but I haven't been able to get my hands on any good orchard this late in so he talked me into the alfalfa vs the teff hay, so I get home and I feed some alfalfa and orchard mix they ate the orchard and left the alfalfa? What?? I thought it was "the best hay around" ..these horses are all on pasture on about 40 acres maybe give it time or time to sell it cheap and get it out of my way?

If my horses don't eat what I put down, they don't eat.

My pickiest eaters will leave the stems on the alfalfa sometimes, but they usually eat all the leaves clean off.

Some who aren't used to it also might not be sure about it.

I feed only alfalfa now, I think the horses do better on it and I can feed less.

they may need to get used to it. I would feed one type of hay one meal, the other type the next meal. Alfalfa will have a different taste, and the grass hay probably has more sugars than the alfalfa. Alfalfa tends to have less sugars than grass hay, and higher calcium phosphorous ratios . It is better for a horse with ulcers.
That hay looks fairly decent. Does it smell good ? If it smells molded take it back .
