Cool Quiz Me!

So I've been really wanting to get a horse for a long time. I work to ride on the weekends and read everything I can get my hands on. So if you could kind of 'quiz me' on stuff concerning horse care, owning a horse, etc, I would like to know if i'm really ready for a horse. Please exlude financial stuff because I know how much it will cost.. Thanks!!!:)

Besides money, horses take a lot of time. Do you have time to devote to a horse? Even if you board, your horse still deserves exercise and attention. So besides the cost, time is one of the main things you will need.

What are you looking for in a horse :) What type of riding do you do? Are your looking for something fancy or just a trail prospect? We can quiz you on more details to make sure you know how to find a good one too .

Hmmmm.... Are you positive about it? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or mean here, but I thought I took everything into account before I got a horse, but when I actually got her, 3 or 4 months later I realized I didn't do such a good job counting the actual expenses.

Trailhorserider: When I get into highschool, I will get home at 2:00, leaving me all day with my future horse. I really want to keep it on my property as we have a large area perfect for a pasture.

Countmystrides: I would preferably get a quarter horse, and i'm just looking for a fully trained, pleasure or trail prospect. I go english or western, though recently i've been doing english.

KittenVal: ha ha, yes. I have added it all up to, and of course, there all always emergencies and such. But i'm not getting a horse soon, so I just want to make sure I know all the care info. I will never get a horse if I don't have the money to properly take care of it. :)

Ok, if you buy a "trail prospect", that means you have to train, right? Alot of time goes into that and possibly not being able to go out riding right away. If you buy a "fully trained" horse are you prepared to possibly go through any quirks and trust issues and spookiness that horse may have? In my opinion, there is no bomb proof horse, there is no fully trained, because when I bought my mare she was 12 and she did everything she could to test me. Alot of horses do. Maybe someone out there has a "BOMB PROOF" horse but I believe alot of time goes into such an animal. If you put in the time you will have the best horse in the world. But you better know what your doing or have someone on standby to help. And its great that you are reading and checking into information on horses but no amount of reading and info can prepare you for any particular horse. They all have their own personalities. As this forum is the reason why people are here. Watch herd dynamics. Body language. All in all, I hope you find your dream and when you do, I think you will be fine as long as you give it TIME. :)

Sorry I didn't mean to say trail prospect:) Just like a trail horse. Totally agree with you: I just want a safe, horse that is suitable for a first horse. Thanks for the info!!!
