Unhappy Rain Rot

My 24 year old quarter horse has rain rot on is back, I am not sure what to do. Does anyone have any tips for what I can do for him? or to prevent future rain rot?

Thanks in advance!

We never had any trouble with this until our 30 yr old stud got it spring. I think his system got down and he just couldn't fight it. Resolve wound formula will get rid of it and get the hair growing again.

All the horses at my old barn got rain rot this spring, I guess it was really wet or a virus went around or something because they were all perfectly healthy otherwise, on good grain and hay and everything. We bathed them all with dawn fish soap. Helped clear it up in no time. Although try not to get it on all of his body because of can dry out their coats.

Here I was going to go out and try to find some fish soap for my daughter's 22 year old mare. THAT would have been fun!!!

.

We use Tea Tree Oil with great success, although our favorite store quit carrying it.
