Rain Scald/Rot

I'm thinking shadow has Rain rot. I haven't got any pictures, but on either side of his withers, along his back and just touching his rump he has lots of scabs and rough, dull hair. I Have never seen this and it isn't on my other horse?

Mum says it's just rain rot from the amount of rain we've had, and it manifested. She thinks he caught it off another old horse near him.

If it is rain rot, did I treated it correctly? I Washed him completely today while it was sunny, I used a regular shampoo and SCRUBBED all the scabs of him and picked the ones I couldn't get of with the water, I let him dry a bit and sprayed it all with a ton of iodine and walked him otu so he didn't roll or anything.

Is it the same thing as mud fever or greasy heel??

Not the same, but similar to scratches/mud fever/etc. There are a whole host of bacterial and fungal skin conditions that horses can get.

You did fine with your treatment. Most of these skin problems thrive in dark, damp, airless environments, so try to keep him dry (but not covered unless necessary) with as much exposure of his skin to air and sun as possible. You can continue to use iodine, but once the skin starts looking normal/healthy, I would just let it be. In my experience, unless it's terribly severe, the simple care you're giving will take care of it.

Puts my mind at ease that aleast it's sort of easy to cure, just annoying! :) When I picked the scabs a couple days ago it was very green underneath, it wasn't green , it's not as gunky lookign this week, hopefully, it will go away :)

These skin problems can seem like they take forever to completely go away, but as long as you keep up with it and you continue to see improvement, you shouldn't have any problem. Like anything, if you see it getting worse, a call to the vet is probably the best choice.
