Raspberry leaves (mare magic)

So just a quick question to settle my nerves ..my mare is on bulk raspberry leaves that I get from the local health food store. They're USDA grade and I always buy those ones. A friend of mine plaed an order to herbalcom aka herbnhorse and got me a pound of raspberry leaves but they aren't USDA grade, they're from Albania I believe. They look the same but smell different and aren't near as fresh as the USDA ones I usually buy. Is there any harm in giving these to my mare like I normally would? I mixed them in with the USDA ones I've got but they're so much drier. And being they're from Albania I'm a tad sceptical. I'm sure. Raspberry leaf is a raspberry leaf is a raspberry leaf but I've always just fed USDA grade, I just want to make sure my horse will be okay. And of course they were cheaper (and I see why) but I don't want to waste a pound of leaves that I could use.

Thanks!
Sincerely, a paranoid horse owner :)

They look exactly like the ones I have but smell plasticy (might be from the bag) the usda ones i have have a verydistinct strong raspberry smell. These ones may be Old, color is a bit dull...i just wana make sure my horse wont Die! I'm not too keen on using them but dumb me mixed them all together. The USDA ones I have are fresher, these ones aren't so fresh and are dry. I'm not ordering from them anymore that's for sure.

Do they smell musty or have color variations that could be like a fungus or mold? They might just be older, if they were dried properly they should be ok, but might be less effective. My worry would be if the leaves had a fungus when they were fresh, or if the company had used pesticides etc.
You may be able to take some in to your local GNC and see if they think it is ok, or if they have seen leaves dried in that condition.

Best of luck!

They're not moldy but smell just...bad. I'm throwing them out and going to the health food store and buying te USDA ones I always get. Apparently these other ones I got are FDA approved but I don't care. They just smell gross, not like the ones that I get that smell really good.

Were they ground up like they are in Mare Magic? My concern would be that they aren't actually raspberry leaves. And FDA approved doesn't mean a whole lot. I wouldn't buy anything of that sorts from other countries. Just too many things that can go wrong.

Good choice in replacing them.

They look exactly like the ones I had (which were USDA approved ras leaves) but to me looked old and smelt terrible. They were also very dry compared to the ones I normally get. They were dry like crunchy. I'm just gonna chuck em. My horses eat better then me half the time :) if I knew they were from Albania in the first place I never woulda gotten em. Ill try to see if I can get a pic of the two side by side but doubt you'll be able to tell the difference just through a picture.

If they smell bad then I think you're right in throwing them out. Your horse might not have eaten them anyway.
