Reacting to Tick Bites?

I posted about my new mare being accident prone. I am now leaning towards the thought that maybe she is reacting to tick bites, as I have now found some yellow crusty spots in her mane and tail along with on her body. Sound feasible? Anyhing I can do? Ticks are terrible this year out here.
