Question riding a mare in foal?

I want to breed my mare, but I she is an amazing horse and I don't want to give up being able ride and barrel race her. I know some people say you can ride a horse till the day they have a foal, but is it healthy? And could I still run barrels on her? I mean obviously I would not be running barrels when she is all fat and stuff but how long could I ride her hard till its unsafe?
She is such a great horse and I want a foal out of her so when she is no longer around I will hopfully have something at least half as good as her. What do you all think??

Not going to get into the whole breeding thing, but I'll answer the question you posed.

I've always heard that you can ride up until the day they have the foal. When we bred my mare, I rode her pretty hard up until the week she foaled.

I bred my mare last June and I rode her till last month when I got hurt. I would still be riding her if not for my injury. I have heard that she will tell you when it's time to quit riding.
