Hello I need some advise. I have a pregnant Arabian Mare and I've had her since January. the people I bought her from had some really wonky halter on her saying that she always scraped her halters off. and she rolls in the mud DAILY. now that she has shed out her summer coat she has there scabby places on her coat, one on her neck and under both elbows where there are scabby sores. i started picking at the scabby places and found BUGS!! big black ones that look like giant black fleas! they must be some kind of lice i suppose. my querstion is what pesticide is safe to give a mare that is pregnant and due to foal in November? I'm assuming that some kind of dip is the answer but i don't know which ones are safe and what exactly she has.
thanks,
Angi
really? I guess the black lice/fleas is not that common?
Honestly I've never had a horse that had this before but i didn't have horses down this far south. when the girl i bought her from told me she was always scraping her halter off the first thing i thought was Bugs or lice of some kind but i never saw anything (and i LOOKED and LOOKED and LOOKED) until now. I guess since her coat is shed it's easier to find the itchy spots..... I didn't just want to treat her with some random dip without knowing it's safe for a mommy to be
thanks,
ANgi
Yeah I do. I've never seen any problems near her head though and shes never taken it off (I have a break away halter on her). I see the itchy spots very low on her neck by the shoulder and under her armpits in that spot between elbow and belly.
