Scabby patches on belly.

My horse has scabby patches on her belly and partway up her side. It came on suddenly as she gets brushed every day except yesterday she didn't and I noticed it today. I put a Latex glove on and felt it. It obviously hurts but being the sweet mare she is she just bumped with her nose as if to say "Hey that hurts you know." She also has a bump on her rump. I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not. I noticed the bump about a week ago. Anyone have any idea what it is and what to do?
