What is the injury from? I would want a vet to look at it to make sure it has been healing properly and to know what I'm dealing with. Do you plan on riding this horse?

Are you worried about his soundness, the wound HEALING properly, or the fact that he will have a scar? He WILL have a scar .. and it will probably remain "ugly" .. but if he is sound and happy, who cares about the scar?

What Texas said. The horse will always have an ugly scar on his leg. It will diminish some with time, but will never go away completely.

My TB has a similar scar, interestingly enough on that same back leg. It's unsightly, but hasn't affected his soundness. He must have been injured as a young foal, because even his racing trainer didn't know how he got it.

As long as he's sound on the leg, it's just a cosmetic flaw.

My old gelding (old like died in '94 at 31 years old) had a scar like that with all the scar tissue on his back leg. He was sound. I showed him in pleasure, barrels, and some jumping, he was on the drill team .. never slowed him down.

The fact that this horse was sold as a companion and not a riding horse is what makes me question what the injury was from. And why a vet should asses it.

Hi no not for ridding this boy my mother seen him avertised as urgent sale and felt sorry for him so purchased him to as a companion for her old boy :) I'm not real concerned about the scar has no swelling/ blood/ heat ect and he is sound in confirmation if I were interested in ridding him I of course would get a vet to acces it beforehand .... Oh wow a lot or horses out there with such scars can I guys who have exsperienced this tell me if your horse had hair growth throughout the scar at all??

My gelding had some, but it grew in odd directions and I actually clipped it smooth when we showed.

Repeat after me:

"The scar doesn't matter."

LOL .. don't get hung up on the scar. It isn't going away and pretty soon you won't even notice it.
