Scratches are a PAIN IN THE BUTT! We had a 4 socked gelding that was out on pasture and got it on all 4 legs. He was a tiny bit spooky and hesitant of getting doctored, and we had to doctor him ALL WINTER. We started out just having the vet check it out. He had to sedate him to shave all 4 legs and scrub all of the scabs off. Then he mixed us up an ointment (like someone above described), and bandaged his legs. We had to scrub them, put the ointment on, and bandage every day for a while. - If you are having a hard time getting them to go away, I would definitely consult your vet and have him give you the prescription ointment. They can drag on forever and ever without proper treatment! Everyone has different treatments, and a lot of people have crazy homemade remedies that do the job, but we found it easiest to just go with our vets advice!
