Is that caused by breeding? Just not sure what the cause is?

Oh, I have no idea. I just posted so people (leaving close enough) would be careful. I remember we had an outbreak here in local horse center and it was very scary - number of horses there were put down (and barn was shut down for several weeks as far as I remember). Especially given the fact they keep/participate in horse shows pretty actively so horses from other barns could easily interact with their horses.

Oh boy. Something I'll look up. I know in breeding dogs they can get brucilosis (sp)? Breeding problem that doesn't necessarily kill the dogs but will kill pups.

Isn't this the equine herpes that can be spread easily through tack and sharing of space? It usually rears it's ugly head in show barns and race tracks because that's how it gets them... when they are stressed....

Thanks for posting kitten_val. I'm in NJ so of course clicked on this right away. I do need to read up more about this disease but this barn is on the other side of the state and my 2 are just backyard pasture puffs. No stressed show ponies or racehorses here. :)

But I do hope they get it under control...scarey stuff.

I think you are right, FP. BTW, here is the article about our local outbreak... The Horse | Maryland Horses Succumb to Neurologic EHV-1 I do remember people were really scared...

Thanks for posting this. This is scary. I'm in Jersey. It seems to be up north though I'm southern Jersey I hope it doesn't move down here.
