Shoulder/Neck Swelling

My gelding has some swelling above the shoulder near the wither and along his neck on his left side. It orginated just at the shoulder and has slowly moved into his neck. It's been about 3 weeks now and although he still runs around and his lateral neck stiffness is reducing, I was wondering if anyone knew anything that I could give him that could help him recover faster.
I have spoken to my vet about it and my farrier was up doing his feet a while back and both think it was likely an injury he acquired in his pasture running around with my other gelding(ie a slip or him running into something).
Up to this point I've been doing a combination of neck flexibility excercises, massage, epsom salt soaking and rubbing and light excercise. I had heard that apple cider vinegar could help with fluid build up and swelling, but have no idea how to admister it so it is palatable. Any help is appreciated!!Thanks:)

Aside from swelling from a kick or something, the only thing I can think of is pigeon fever.

I don't know too much about it, but swelling around the chest area is a sign of it (but it can extend as far back as their sheath/udders). Try googling that and see if any of the other symptoms match up...

Hmm, he has no swelling in his chest area at all or his sheath. It is really only limited to his neck, about an inch from his mane (it resembles fat in an overweight pony neck, but it looks odd as it is only about 10 cm long and only on one side) and just below his wither above his shoulder, although it has greatly reduced from original size.
