Sick horse-Fever-Unknown origin...

Well, I was hoping we were out of the woods, but today they took his temp before they turned him out and got 100, and then I took it when we brought him in and it was 103. Yesterday we were going to drop the Penicillin to once a day, but now I think we need to keep him on it twice daily. He is also getting IV antibiotics (Genacin?) once daily. Although still lethargic and acting like he was not feeling well, he is eating better than he has been. He has been on the Penicillin and Genacin since Monday, and we did see the fever stay down Wed-Fri, so I am a little concerned that it spiked today, although today was his first day of normal turnout.

I would take to your vet about adding Red Cell (an Iron supplement) to the horses diet? That could help with the lethargy.

I think he might have the same illness as the other horses, but just has more of a natural susceptibility, or it could be an allergic reaction. Have you been turning him out with the geldings the whole time he has been sick, or just recently? If he has not been contagious for the whole duration it might be an allergic reaction of some sort. It might have been something in the air. I hope he gets better soon!
