I have a 5 yr old mare that I rescued about 5 weeks ago. She was starved and I talked with a vet about her and feed her like she said. She was doing so good has even put alittle weight on. I noticed yesterday she was laying down more than normal and today when I feed this morning she did not finish her feed so I sat in the barn for awile to keep an eye on her and diarrhea bad. She feels so hot and sweating its not hot out. She is still laying down alot so I m keeping an eye on her to make sure she does not roll. I called the vet to see what I Should do to help her but could not get her. We live way out so I fall in the middle and there is no vet that will come this far I have to take her in to be seen and I have no trailer right now. Is there something I can give her to help her. I know that is hard to say without knowing the cause of this but any help would be appreciated.
You need to find a vet that will come out or get a trailer and haul her in NOW. Diahrea in adult horses is very serious and it's not something that the horse will get over in time. I had a horse get a bacterial infection and very nearly die in just a couple of days. He spent a week at the vet and lost probably 200lbs before it was all said and done.
Thank you I finally got the vet and she has agreed to come out for an extra fee to cover gas she should be her shortly. A price I'm willing to paying she's been through so much and just as she was getting better she gets worse. Thanks again
Take a look at the photos I uploaded (entitled pics of my rescue) and my horses story (entitled looking for a forever home). If you need any advice as I have just dealt with the same thing then please contact me. I will do my best.
