Sunflower seeds

I don't see why not. As a treat they would be fine, or a small amount sprinked over their feed. 1/4 cup per-horse would be fine. My horses love just about any kind of nut, though I don't feed them in any quantity.

I have two questions:

Some of you are feeding sunflower sedds but some are feeding the oil made from the seeds (which you reffer to as BOSS), right?

In the case of the oil, how much do you give?.

In the case of feeding the seeds, do you give them whole or peeled?

Boss stands for black oil sunflower seeds.
Flickas coat benefits from 1/2 a cup per feeding.

Wow conflicting opinions I havn't had a chance to read the articles because I'm on my phone but what I gather omega 3 is what I want and the oils don't have a good ratio with omega 6 which it from hay. So I should just stick to BSS? I have another question I want to put Buzz on ACV becuase of all the benefits of that but would that be ok with BSS

BSS (you mean BOSS, right?) has no omega 3 at all. :) Canola gives at least some omega 3, flax oil (that one VERY expensive though) gives much more. I personally add ground flax to the feed (besides the canola). It's cheap in our local Bowman's (like $.50/pound or you can buy a whole big bag).

My local feed store carries ground flax from Animed for $29 for 20lbs. I feed 1/2 cup to most of my horses, which is only 2 oz by weight. They do very well on it. My fatties only get 1/3 cup and my "hard workers" (that tend to lose easily) get 1 cup for weight gain/maintenence.

So, feeding 1/2 cup, or 2 oz, only costs about $0.19 per-day per-horse.

I guess it may be cheaper by the bag (I always just go with 5 lbs to have it fresh). Going to check it out next time I go there if it's cheaper by the bag.

I sor tof didn't relize their was a bird section in my local stockfeeds so I hadn't looked lol there was like 5 stacks of it
